Colors to Suit Your Skin Tone

There are many factors to take into account when choosing which colors to wear, here we take a look at how skin tone can contribute to colors that look hot and can absolutely decide those which do not! Fashion and style magazines will try and dictate which colors should be worn during certain seasons, however, individual beauty should be the discerning factor, there is no point wearing the hot color of the moment if it really does not do anything for you.

So the first step is to identify which skin tone you are, dark skinned women tend to have black or dark brown hair and eyes. If you fall into this category the colors you wear should contrast with your dark features, this will brighten up your look and catch the eye of others. Rich golden, spicy and earthy colors will accent your complexion. Therefore, look for a warm undertone when selecting a color such as sand, olive, light gold and chocolate. On the whole you should avoid tropical colors and really dark shades that will not be the most flattering. Obviously corporate colors like navy and black are hard to avoid but when you are being a social butterfly and want to look your best remember that bright, stark colors and even fiery metallic colors like light gold and silver will highlight your gorgeous color in it's most flattering light.

If you are of a medium skin tone you are lucky as you can wear almost any shade, as light and dark colors will contrast nicely with your coloring. So experiment with different colors like light plum, purple, aqua, burgundy and forest green. The only colors that you should avoid wearing are those blend too closely with your skin tone, for example if you have an olive colored complexion – avoid this shade!

Fair ladies tend to have blond or red hair and fair eyes like blue, green or hazel. Pastels and softer colors compliment your skin-tone as they are relaxed and soft so think sand, steel blue, butter, lilac and ivory. In most cases avoid harsh vibrant colors like orange, lime green and yellow.
